President Joyce F. Brown, the Board of Trustees, and the Fashion Institute of Technology community express deep sorrow  on the death of Professor Emeritus Lou Stollar, a key figure on campus for 50 years. As a teacher of psychology and president of FIT's union, the UCE of FIT, he left an extraordinary mark on the college.  Under his leadership, FIT became one of  the first colleges to have a collective bargaining agreement. Admired throughout the college, he was a friend to all who knew him. We mourn  Lou's passing and  remember with gratitude his remarkable achievements.

Stollar, Louis; born Bronx, NY on January 23, 1933, died in Manhattan on  January 24, 2011. He leaves behind a family deeply saddened by his death: wife, Jeannette Gillespie Stollar, Manhattan and Montgomery, NY; son Mark and wife Sandra, Manhattan; daughter Jessica  Keizer and husband Quentin, Kingsport,  TN; former wife Lee Stollar, Manhattan; six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Kasey, and Joey Keizer; Brittany and Cailin Stollar; and Stacey Keizer Andis and great-grandson Cameron. Lou's career was  dedicated totally to helping others, whether they  were his FIT psychology students; his psychoanalytic patients; his FIT union members, for whom  Lou served as Faculty and Staff Union president from 1968-2004, or his numerous union colleagues in colleges and schools throughout the state and nation. His strengths, integrity and commitment to education  were unmatched and will be missed dearly.  FIT Memorial May 25, 212-217-3370.
